11th March 2022: TRANSPORT PROJECT DEVELOPMENT FACILITY
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) fielded on 7th – 11th March 2022 a virtual mission to (i) review the Project Readiness Financing (PRF) grant for the Transport Project Development Facility, to prepare the proposed Fanga’uta Lagoon Bridge Project; and (ii) review the Nuku’alofa Port Upgrade Project.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was discussed and agreed virtually with representatives from ADB, Ministry of Finance (MOF), Ministry of Infrastructure (MOI), Ports Authority of Tonga (PAT) and other relevant ministries. Project design and implementation progress were presented by the Project Management Unit (PMU), Royal HaskoningDHV and Chodai Co. Ltd. An update on the Tonga Maritime Transport Sector Master Plan was also presented.
In July 2019, ADB approved a PRF grant for a total amount of US$5.5 million for a Transport Project Development Facility to prepare engineering designs, update due diligence, and procurement support for the Port and Bridge Project, and implementation of the PMU. ADB also approve on 3rd December 2020 the Nuku’alofa Port Upgrade Project for a total project amount of US$50 million.
