NUKU’ALOFA (13 October 2022): Welcome, to the first Business Opportunity Consultation relating to the Government of Tonga Reconstruction and recovery following the Hunga-Tonga Hunga Ha’apai Volcano Eruption in February 2022, hosted by the Acting Prime Minister and Acting Minister for Infrastructure, Hon. Samiu Kuita Vaipulu.

It is crucial that both the Government and the private sectors are aware of the business opportunities from the HTHHVER reconstruction to enable planning ahead to maximize preparation and successful business engagement at the same time support the Government to meet its reconstruction objectives on time and within budget. The PMU has identified the need for consultations with the Government partners for the reconstruction to:
a) Inform the private sector on the Government objectives for the reconstruction
b) Discuss contract opportunities available for the private sector for the fixed budget housing contracts, supplies contracts, labor only contracts and others:
c) Consider the challenges of the inflationary pressures by both the global and domestic
forces on build materials and logistics.
