4th of November, 2022: World Bank Project Mission (October 24th – November 3rd, 2022)
The World Bank Task Team Leader for the Transport Project in Tonga (Mr Satoshi Ogita) met with Tonga’s Minister of Infrastructure, Hon. Sevenitini Toumo’ua and Tonga’s Minister of Finance, Hon. Tiofilusi Tiueti.
The World Bank Mission Team were in Tonga from October 24th to November 3rd, 2022 to work with the relevant Government of Tonga representatives to jointly review the implementation progress of the Tonga Climate Resilient Transport Project (TCRTP I & TCRTP II). The World Bank-funded transport project for Tonga will upgrade selected roads, ports and airports infrastructure. Under the TCRTP Project, there is a Contingency Emergency Response Component (CERC) which provides assistance and quick response in the event of emergencies in Tonga. More than US$2.5 million of funds from this CERC component has been utilized to strengthen Tonga’s health systems.
Vava'u Rehabilitation Project Roadworks in 'Eua
The Mission Team visited current and future project infrastructure sites in Tongatapu, ‘Eua, Ha’apai and Vava’u. There is a future project work to be done in the Niua Islands but the Mission Team did not have sufficient time to visit the Niua islands.
